Earth Day has grown exponentially in the past 45 years, from 20 million Americans who took to "streets, parks and auditoriums to demonstrate for a healthy, sustainable environment" in 1970 to the 1 billion participants in 192 countries who participated on Wednesday. Beyond individual action, companies are also showing their support for the environment through Earth Day campaigns. Here are a few that caught our eye:

  • American Eagle Outfitters is doing its part to reduce, reuse, recycle and repurpose through a new partnership with Brad Pitt's nonprofit Make It Right. The retailer will be offering 20 percent off a new pair of jeans to each person who brings in an old pair of denim. The material from donated items will then be recycled into insulation for Make It Right's affordable and sustainable housing units.
  • Rovio Entertainment, the makers of the Angry Birds mobile game, is making raising awareness for climate change fun through a new Earth Day level on the Angry Birds game. Last year's partnership with Prince William's United for Wildlife conservation game attracted 10 million game sessions.
