Arrow-sponsored Student Team Takes Fifth Place at Global Robotics Competition
January 5, 2016 /3BL Media/ - Arrow Electronics sponsored a team of three 14-year-old German students to compete in the 2016 World Robot Olympiad (WRO) in Delhi, India last month. The Arrow-sponsored team, named “The Mindfactory,” took fifth place within their category at the competition.
The Mindfactory’s project consisted of a robotic system designed to curb material waste in e-commerce. Their miniature model was made of three connected robots that perform different tasks. One robot measured the size of objects, the second transported the appropriate package, and the third robot placed the item in the package. Their project demonstrated how critical resources can be used in an environmentally friendly manner.
According to Robert Schickhoff, the Managing Director of Arrow in Central Europe, the concept of the project struck a chord with him and his colleagues. “The idea behind the students’ robot system convinced us because Arrow embraces and promotes sustainability throughout the technology product lifecycle—from design and production to finding new uses for old devices. We were impressed by their innovative solution and delighted to help these inspiring young students achieve their goal of competing in the World Robotics Olympics.”
The Arrow-sponsored Mindfactory team won several German preliminaries and was one of 16 German teams represented at the WRO. For more information on Mindfactory, please visit http://themindfactory.net/ (German language website)
