Atlas Copco Kıds Make an Impact on Safety & Health Awareness

World Safety Day – introduced by the International Labour Organization in 2003 to promote occupational safety and health at work – was observed on 28 April by the Atlas Copco Group.  Safety Day activities are intended to raise general awareness of health and safety in the home and away from work, with the aim of increasing Atlas Copco employees’ awareness and promoting interest in health and safety whilst at work.

Atlas Copco Turkey broadened the involvement to make it a truly family affair, under the motto: “Health & Safety at the workplace, Health & Safety at home…We owe it to our beloved ones”

“Our Safety Day activities in Turkey were designed to inspire, engage and motivate workers enabling them to make positive behavioural changes to improve their individual health and lifestyles, both in and beyond the workplace. We helda seminar on “healthy living, minimizing stress, regular exercise, lifestyle ‘risk’ factors such as smoking, drinking, and excess weight” and personalized water bottles were distributed to all employees to encourage proper hydration.” says Ronny Onkelinx, VP Holding, “With these initiatives, we aim to generate behavioural change and promote lifestyle changes. We believe, these kind of initiatives that provide the motivation to encourage behavioural changes are more likely to have a greater impact beyond the workplace and for longer periods of time.”

People’s safety is important all the time, not only when they’re at work. Working from this perspective, Atlas Copco Turkey made safety a family affair, involving employees’ families in an integrated focus on the importance of safety and adopting an healthy lifestyle. To encourage participation by family members of all ages, while at the same time raising awareness of safety within the company, Atlas Copco Turkey launched a Kidsart contest for ages 3-7 & ages 8-12, as an activity for both Safety Day and National Sovereignty and Children's Day celebrations. Kids were asked to draw a scene of a “happy family, the happiest moment they had with their families”.

“I’m delighted to see that we received many submissions from all regions, and I was highly impressed by the quality and colorfulness of the drawings. However, choosing winners in each age category will not be easy!” says Ronny Onkelinx, VP Holding.

A short video of Atlas Copco Kidsart contest participants and our health and safety message is now available and all Turkish employees will receive a survey next week to vote for the winners!
