Good People, Good Causes was the theme of the 2015 United Way Emerging Leaders Society Philanthropic Awards in Spokane, Wash. And that theme aptly describes Avista’s commitment to the communities that the company has proudly served for 126 years. Avista was one of eight finalists for Philanthropic Corporation of the Year and emerged as the winner in that category, reinforcing the company’s purpose of improving life’s quality with energy – safely, reliably and responsibly.

Avista was recognized for its commitment to sustaining communities through a focus on education, delivering programs that help vulnerable and limited income customers, and by investing in activities that enhance economic and community vitality.

For the sixth straight year, Avista was named one of the top philanthropists in Washington State. The company gives back to its communities in many ways, including 50,000 hours of annual community service to more than 1,000 organizations by employees and through corporate and foundation giving that totaled more than $2.3 million in 2014 alone.

Avista is deeply rooted in its service area and is steadfast as a leader among companies that are the go-to sources for major philanthropic and civic support. The impact of Avista’s community participation and support is felt throughout local communities and the region.
