BJ’s Feeding Communities Program Achieves Donation Milestone of 30 Million Pounds
How the Donation Process Works
WESTBOROUGH, Mass., April 8, 2015 /3BL Media/ – BJ’s Wholesale Club announced today that its Feeding Communities program achieved a major giving milestone as 30 million pounds of nutritious food has been donated to local Feeding America® food banks since its launch in November 2011. The 30 million pounds of food equates to 25 million meals* to help individuals and families struggling with hunger.
“At BJ’s Wholesale Club, what is not sold is shared,” said Laura Sen, president & CEO of BJ’s Wholesale Club. "We are deeply committed to help solve hunger and the ongoing efforts under BJ’s Feeding Communities program ensures that healthy food can reach the people that need it most.”
According to Feeding America, 1 in 6 people in the United States struggle with hunger despite the fact that there is enough food to feed everyone in need. As hunger exists in each community across the country, BJ’s looked to expand its partnership with Feeding America and their network of food banks and member agencies. Through the establishment of BJ’s Feeding Communities program, this company-wide effort works to provide fresh produce, baked goods, frozen meats and fish, and dairy — to help support 45 Feeding America member food banks in BJ’s 15-state footprint.
“It’s because of the dedication of partners like BJ’s Wholesale Club that Feeding America is able to continue to provide nutrient-rich food to the more than 46 million Americans who rely on our network’s support,” said Nancy Curby, vice president of corporate partnerships. “Reaching this milestone of 30 million pounds of donated food to help those in need is a testament to their commitment to the fight to end domestic hunger.”
