Corporate volunteerism has a long history as the primary social program for many companies. But the idea has come a long way from the traditional, once-a-year, clean-up-the-park day. Not that there’s anything wrong with that kind of effort, but in these troubled times with so much need in so many areas, bigger commitments are required to make an impact on today’s large social problems.

A prime example is Aramark’s Building Community program, the company’s global volunteer and philanthropic initiative. Since 2008, Aramark’s 30,000 employees have volunteered in thousands of projects that affect the lives of millions, and the company has invested over $9 million in expertise, financial, and in-kind resources to community-focused initiatives. On Thursday, September 17th, as part of its Building Community program, Aramark employees volunteered to help families in underserved communities in hundreds of projects around the world, including the U.S. and Canada, Chile, Peru, China, Korea, Ireland and the U.K.  The results were as impressive as the scale of the effort.
