OVERLAND PARK, Kan., August 2, 2016 /3BL Media/ – Black & Veatch, a global leader in the design and construction of advanced resource management solutions, today announced a new sustainability offering focusing on the enterprise-level market. The new offering will help large consumers of power, water and other critical resources achieve greenhouse gas emission reduction targets, increase usage of carbon-free renewable energy technologies, minimize water consumption, enhance resilience and promote greater operational efficiency across their organizations.

To address rapidly evolving shareholder requests for environmental sustainability programs, Black & Veatch experts will work with enterprises to develop comprehensive sustainable solutions from program conception through execution. Energy assessments, water recycling, renewable energy integration focusing on wind and solar resources as well as advanced battery storage technologies and data analytics are core Black & Veatch services that will be available with the new offering.

“Companies are increasingly looking inward to find more efficient ways to deliver their services, while meeting expectations – both their own and from their customers – for a reduced carbon footprint and the sustainable use of critical resources,” said Joe Plubell, Senior Vice President Global Strategic Accounts for Black & Veatch. “Our history of executing sustainable energy and water projects around the world positions us to bring these services together in an integrated way for clients regardless of size or geographic reach.”

In recent months, Black & Veatch has delivered a broad array of sustainability-focused projects for its diverse clients.

  • Black & Veatch is planning a holistic smart city framework to help the city of Chula Vista, California, more efficiently use its critical energy, water and communications infrastructure.
  • Black & Veatch is part of a joint venture design and construction team developing an energy security microgrid at Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar, in San Diego, California. The project will allow operations at mission-critical facilities to continue uninterrupted if the utility power grid is compromised or damaged using renewable resources, advanced smart grid control systems and demand response capabilities.
  • The company is working with Volta, an industry-leading provider of free, sponsored electric vehicle charging stations augmenting its vast experience in the Electric Vehicle space.
  • Its ASSET360 data analytics platform has helped the Port of San Diego Smart City project by providing real-time information to help operators make smarter decisions about power consumption.

“The need to conserve energy and water resources is being driven by a business case and by social movements, such as the Paris COP21 climate agreement. Companies need solutions that will make them more resilient and profitable,” Plubell added. “Bringing Black & Veatch’s comprehensive service offerings under a single point of contact will make communities, businesses and campuses more resilient, sustainable and ready for growth.”

The company also built an award-winning microgrid that powers portions of its World Headquarters featuring solar photovoltaic (PV), natural gas microturbines, geothermal energy, battery storage, electric vehicle charging station grid support and a comprehensive data analytics tool to help manage it all and provide intelligence for future microgrid installations.

Additional Black & Veatch sustainable projects that are leveraging best practices in energy and water management, advanced technologies and data analytics are helping businesses and governments address:
