Booz Allen Hamilton has joined the growing coalition pledging to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Only one month after 150 CEOs came together to launch the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™, more than 80 additional CEOs have taken the pledge, committing themselves – and the organizations they lead -- to advance diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

By signing on to this commitment, Booz Allen is pledging to continue taking action to cultivate a workplace where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected and where employees feel encouraged to discuss diversity and inclusion. The collective of more than 250 signatories have already shared nearly 200 best known actions, exchanging tangible learning opportunities and creating collaborative conversations via the initiative’s unified hub, CEOAction.com.

Organizations joining the pledge are taking a step towards effecting positive change. New research from the Center for Talent Innovation, a nonprofit think tank, found that when employees can discuss the topic of race relations at work, they feel significantly more included and that their ideas are heard and recognized. 

The actions, available via CEOAction.com, showcase real-life examples of the open and transparent conversations to cultivate more diverse and inclusive workplace environments.

Here’s how Booz Allen is doing its part:

Military Spouse Employment Initiative
Military families experience a higher-than-average unemployment rate, and unless organizations address military spouse unemployment, they’re missing the opportunity to improve national readiness and make military service more sustainable. To that end, Booz Allen seeks to lead the business community in supporting military spouse career mobility. The firm has created training materials for managers that emphasize the value of military spouse employees, highlights the challenges military spouses face, and underscores the firm’s commitment to retaining them. Booz Allen’s goal is to increase military spouse hiring and retention each year, and target military spouses when recruiting for mobile and telework-friendly positions.

STEM GIRLS 4 SOCIAL GOOD
Booz Allen is committed to closing the STEM gender gap and building the strongest, most diverse pipeline of future STEM talent. One way the firm is doing so is through STEM Girls 4 Social Good (SG4SG) and a partnership with Girls Inc. DC’s STEM + Leadership Academy. SG4SG aims to bridge the talent gap in these growing fields by inviting young women to learn STEM concepts while exploring issues affecting our society. It uses a cascading mentorship model that supports women and girls at key stages in their lives, addressing the common “opt-out” points where girls and women abandon STEM.  Booz Allen’s goal is to build enthusiasm and interest in the many options a career in STEM can offer.

The CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ is led by a steering committee of CEOs and leaders from Accenture, BCG, Deloitte US, The Executive Leadership Council, EY, General Atlantic, KPMG, New York Life, Procter & Gamble, and PwC. The coalition represents nearly 70 industries, all 50 US States, and millions of employees globally.
