This holiday season, Bloomberg employees joined forces with the New York Mets and Bike New York to build and distribute 1,000 bicycles for children in need in the five boroughs of New York City. More than 400 Bloomberg, Mets and Bike NY employees gathered at Citi Field for what turned out to be the largest bike-build in the Northeast.

Last weekend, with the help from Mr. Met, the Flushing YMCA in Queens and the Bedford Stuyvesant YMCA in Brooklyn, we distributed 400 new bicycles (and bike helmets!) to children in Bike NY’s free bike education programs. For many students, it was their first opportunity to ride their very own bike. The remaining 600 bikes will be distributed this coming weekend in the Bronx, Manhattan and Staten Island.
