CITGO is midway through its third annual Efficient Lighting Program, aimed at helping low income households save energy—and money— during the summer when electricity bills rise. The initiative is providing 500,000 energy efficient CFL bulbs to 50,000 qualifying households in 17 U.S. cities.

Subaru is supporting a recycling program at the WXPN Exponential Music Festival in Camden, New Jersey, which it sponsors. Bins for festival attendees to discard their used shoes will be placed at the Subaru display. The initiative has been developed in partnership with ShoeBox Recycling, with all proceeds benefiting Greensgrow Farms programs. The festival opens today and runs through the weekend.

Target Rock Advisors says regulators should adopt a more comprehensive view of sustainability in the U.S. energy utility sector. In a new report, “Sustainable Utility Regulation and Socio-Economic Success,” the consulting firm argues that the industry should be establishing triple bottom line standards for the $2 trillion dollars that will be invested in the electric power network in the next several decades.
