Homer Glen, Ill., Nov. 21, 2013 /3BL Media/ - On Wednesday October 30, CITGO Lemont Refinery employees presented Sylvia McLenighan, fifth grade art teacher at Hadley Middle School with $1,000 worth of art supplies for her classroom as part of the first annual CITGO Fueling Education Promotion, a grant program with ClassWish that allowed teachers to create customized school supply lists to address the specific needs of their students and classrooms.  Mrs. McLenighan was one of the 108 teachers randomly selected from schools within the CITGO marketing footprint, who won $1,000 towards her classroom supply wish list.

“My students and I are very appreciative for the incredibly generous donation we received from CITGO,” said Sylvia McLenighan, fifth grade art teacher at Hadley Middle School.  “Through the Fueling Education grant program, CITGO was able to provide my classroom with a great amount of art supplies including an Econo Etch Model Press, Soft-Kut Printing Blocks, Speedball Linoleum Cutters and educational art DVDs.  These tools and resources will help to enrich the learning experience for all of the students at Hadley Middle School.  We are extremely grateful for the support of CITGO and their employees for making such a positive difference in our school and community.”

The CITGO Fueling Education Promotion in partnership with ClassWish offers teachers, student teachers and PTA/PTO members a chance to win $1,000 in school supplies for their classroom that might otherwise be funded out of their own pockets.  From April 16 through July 7, 2013 educators were required to register and build their supply wish lists at ClassWish.org.  Three $1,000 winners were randomly selected from each of the 27 states in which CITGO operates, as well as the District of Columbia, for a total of 83 winners across the CITGO footprint.  An additional 25 teachers that submitted entries through Instagram received the $1,000 in supplies and a $100 CITGO Gift Card through a random drawing.  This year, CITGO provided more than $100,000 worth of school supplies to more than 100 schools during the first annual Fueling Education Promotion.

The CITGO Lemont Refinery employs more than 800 local residents on a full-time and contract basis in support of the local economy.  In addition to producing high quality fuels for a large portion of the network of nearly 6,000 locally-owned CITGO stations across the country, Lemont refinery employees also make a major positive impact on the community.  Each year, more than 2,500 volunteer hours and thousands of dollars are given in support of community programs such as Muscular Dystrophy Association, United Way and a variety of environmental and preservation programs.  For more information on the CITGO Lemont Refinery, visit www.citgorefining.com/Lemont.
