Tim Hortons, the restaurant chain, has issued its first sustainability report. Among the highlights are the implementation of a supplier code of conduct, an independent audit program for its coffee sourcing, and the registration of three restaurants for LEED certification for energy efficiency. The company also reports that it is on target to cut energy and water use by five percent by the end of this year, and to reduce packaging by five percent by 2012. Tim Hortons is Canada’s largest publicly listed restaurant chain, and operates at over 500 U.S. locations.

Cascadian Farm, the organic food company, has announced its “Change Flows” initiative, a program to celebrate the company’s 40-year commitment to sustainability. From now through April 30th, consumers can help make “Change Flow” by visiting the Cascadian Farm web site to “like” the U.S. region they think most deserves a river cleanup. Cascadian Farm is donating $50,000 to American Rivers, an environmental organization dedicated to protecting and restoring the country’s rivers, as part of the initiative.
