Kingsey Falls, January 6, 2014 /3BL Media/ – As part of the sixth edition of the company-wide "Eco-Heroes" contest, Cascades is once again celebrating the outstanding environmental contributions made by a member of its staff. The “Eco-Hero 2013” prize has been awarded to Valérie Cusson, paper specialist at Cascades Fine Papers Group Inc. in Saint-Jérôme. Along with her new title, Valérie received a $1,000 prize, which she has chosen to donate to Interval, a recreational centre located in Sainte-Lucie-des-Laurentides and a member of the Coalition pour la sauvegarde du mont Kaaikop.

A dedicated employee

Known by her friends and colleagues as an exemplary citizen, Valérie takes the environment very seriously. Indeed, her ongoing efforts to protect the environment are impressive. She buys organic, locally grown and in-season food as much as possible, uses personal care products that are not tested on animals and that are produced in Québec or elsewhere in Canada, prefers eco-friendly clothing and reusable containers, is involved in numerous organizations and events promoting the protection of the environment, and spends her family vacations camping in our province's protected areas and parks. Loyal to the product she so proudly represents, this Eco-Hero prefers publications printed on recycled paper. In addition, she almost always uses the metro to visit her Montréal clients. With her suitcase on wheels full of paper samples, Valérie travels the city, firmly believing that each small gesture can make a difference.

Green by Nature, this Cascader is involved in a number of organizations, such as Greenpeace, Équiterre and the Coop Solidaire des Maisons Populaires. She also participates in many activities that support the environment, including Earth Day, In Town Without My Car day and the Expo Manger Santé et Vivre Vert.

According to Mario Plourde, Cascades’ President and Chief Executive Officer, “The fact that the Company sets itself apart year after year with its eco-friendly products is in part thanks to the dedication of employees such as Valérie. I would like to congratulate Valérie for her remarkable dedication to the environment, and I encourage her to keep up the great work. The values she lives by are in perfect harmony with the principles of our Company, and help to ensure a greener future for everyone. Cascades considers itself lucky to have Valérie as a member of its extended family.”
