Core Thought will present its second Annual Strategy for Good Summit, a five-day Web conference, from February 25th to March 1st. From 11 am to 5 pm each day, the Summit will bring together 30 thought leaders on business in society to share strategies and best practices of social good, corporate philanthropy, and community engagement. Leaders from Ford Motors, Barefoot Wine, Zhena's Gypsy Tea, and Rally Software are among those speaking. The 30 live Web sessions can be heard through recordings for 24 hours after each presentation, and will also be available as MP3 downloads and transcripts.

Domtar is supporting the Recyclebank Green Schools Program, which awards schools grant money for student projects that make a positive environmental impact on their communities. Schools, students, and communities work to encourage residents to donate points that Recyclebank transfers into real dollars for schools. Since 2007, Recyclebank has granted $400,000 to more than 125 schools.  Domtar will award an additional $500 to every school that reaches 50 percent of its donation goal. Domtar will also award a year’s supply of its EarthChoice Office Paper to the school with the most innovative project.

A new report from the Investor Responsibility Research Center Institute finds that environmental and social—“E & S”—shareholder proposals are gaining increased voting support from investors at American public companies. Support for such proposals doubled from 2005 to 2011, from 10 percent to more than 20 percent. At the same time, the proportion of shareholder-sponsored resolutions on “E & S” matters grew by a third, from 30 percent to 40 percent, for all proposals going to a vote. Ernst and Young was the primary research company and contributor to the report.
