January 14, 2014 /3BL Media/ - The Freeport-McMoRan Foundation presented $245,000 in grants to six Greenlee County nonprofit organizations.

2013 Grant Recipients Include:

·       Town of Clifton - $104,000

The “Clifton Parks Revitalization” proposal is part of a multi-year initiative to provide modern outdoor recreational facilities within walking distance for all of Clifton’s residents.

·       Duncan Unified School District - $39,500

The district’s “Reading Program with Library Upgrades” project addresses the community priority area of education by improving the quality of education at Duncan.

·       Duncan PRIDE Society - $13,000

The Duncan Pride Society has taken on the task of restoring and preserving the Hal Empie mural titled “Life in Greenlee County” painted by the famed artist in 1953.

·       Southeastern Arizona Governments Organization - $25,000

The countywide “Growing Greenlee Economic Development Strategy” focuses on making a positive impact on the priority area of Community/Economic Development by performing an Asset Inventory which will help to identify and communicate current and future development opportunities throughout Greenlee County.

·       Southeastern Arizona Workforce Connection - $35,888

Grant funds will be used to supplement Greenlee Workforce Development’s “2014 Summer Youth Program.”

·       The Gila Watershed Partnership - $27,611

The Watershed Partnership’s “Developing the Gila River Watershed in Greenlee County as a Bird-watching Destination” project aims to target bird-watching tourists by developing a local birding program.
