(3BL Media) September 18, 2012 - Harvard Business School (HBS) will host its Global Energy Seminar, an executive education offering, from November 4–7, 2012 on the HBS campus.

Designed for energy leaders and executives in the fields of development, technology, utilities, distribution and finance, Global Energy Seminar will explore the current issues and challenges facing the globalized and increasingly regulated energy sector.

“Energy leaders worldwide are being asked to address a turbulent geopolitical landscape,” said Rawi Abdelal, Joseph C. Wilson Professor of Business Administration and faculty cochair of Global Energy Seminar. “In a time of heightened environmental consciousness and government oversight, providers need to understand the present risks and opportunities in order to innovate and maintain profitability.”

Business models and supply chain structures have become increasingly elaborate as energy enterprises experience added pressure and gain complexity as a result of regulations and state controlled markets. Global Energy Seminar will gather industry peers to examine the arguments for both diversification and consolidation of energy providing enterprises while analyzing the intersections of business and government relations at play within the industry.

“The energy sector is undergoing a challenging but exciting transformation,” said Forest L. Reinhardt, John D. Black Professor of Business Administration and faculty cochair of Global Energy Seminar. “Emerging technologies in clean energy, as well as the race for limited resources and geopolitical tensions, provide an opportunity for executives to coordinate among regulatory bodies in order to ultimately improve energy distribution and efficiency.”

Global Energy Seminar will examine an array of developments influencing the industry, including the impact of alternate energy sources and incentives for lowering emissions,” said Noel Maurer, Associate Professor of Business Administration and faculty cochair of Global Energy Seminar. “By exploring strategies in negotiation and coordination with government regulators, executives will be better-suited to maintain long-term competitiveness.”

Global Energy Seminar will feature a combination of interactive group discussions and guest lectures along with HBS’s renowned case study method. Participants in Global Energy Seminar will leave with a holistic knowledge of the factors at play within the energy industry, and prepare to implement strategy and innovative solutions to solve pressing, real-world energy issues.

Global Energy Seminar will run from November 4–7, 2012 and will take place at Harvard Business School. Please visit our Website for complete curriculum details and to apply.
