January 24, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Global education leader Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) has been named as one of four new inductees into Junior Achievement‘s Boston Business Hall of Fame.  HMH will be honored at a ceremony on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 alongside fellow honorees Hobbs Brook Management, Sullivan & Worcester and Waltham Boys & Girls Club.

The Junior Achievement (JA) Boston Business Hall of Fame recognizes companies and individuals that embody outstanding citizenship while furthering Junior Achievement’s mission of teaching students about financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship.

“As a Boston-based company for over 180 years, we are thrilled to be recognized as a member of JA’s Boston Business Hall of Fame. HMH is dedicated to supporting the communities in which its employees live and work and addressing the social challenges that face our customers,” said Mary Cullinane, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and Social Responsibility. “HMH is committed to delivering learning content and solutions which empower our students to achieve their full potential - a goal which aligns well with JA’s mission and work.”

HMH aligns its corporate citizenship efforts around three guiding pillars—Giving Voice to a variety of education stakeholders, Promoting Access to Ideas and nourishing curiosity, and Removing Barriers to learning. Through local Community Investment Councils, HMH employees organize office-wide volunteerism events, fundraisers, and educational events, including Junior Achievement’s JA Skills to Achieve and JA in a Day programs among many others. HMH recently held its inaugural Company-wide Volunteer Week, in which employees logged more than 4,760 hours of volunteer time to benefit local causes across its office network, including its Boston headquarters.

“Houghton Mifflin Harcourt has demonstrated longstanding leadership within both their industry and their commitment to corporate citizenship.  We are thrilled they have been selected as an inductee into this year’s Junior Achievement Boston Business Hall of Fame,” said Emily Neill, President of Junior Achievement of Northern New England.
