LOS ANGELES, November 19, 2013 /3BL Media/ - The teacher’s lounge at the Alfonso B. Perez Career and Transition Center, a school serving special needs students in East Los Angeles, is going to look a little different come Monday (Nov. 18), courtesy of a design plan that includes updated décor, new appliances, gently-used furnishings, a fresh coat of paint and 20 hardworking volunteers from DIRECTV.

When DIRECTV recently renovated its company headquarters in El Segundo, it found itself with rooms full of surplus office furniture in good condition. They approached Scripps Networks Interactive, parent of HGTV and DIY Network, to help find an environmentally friendly way to extend the life of these furnishings. Working with Scripps’ national partner Rebuilding Together, they identified a local school in need of a little updating.
