October 21, 2013 /3BL Media/ - During this week, Taproot DC and its partners will host a variety of events to educate Washington, DC area nonprofits about strengthen their organizational infrastructure with pro bono consultations.  Mayor Vincent Gray of DC has issued a proclamation officially naming October 20 to 26, 2013 as Pro Bono Week in the District.

This week’s activities kick off with a Legal & Business Pro Bono gathering hosted by Winston & Strawn, LLP.  Twenty nonprofit organizations in the Washington, DC metro area will learn about available tools necessary for utilizing business and legal pro bono resources.

Our day of service known as the “Pro Bono Campfire” is on Tuesday, October 22.  Hosted by Washington Gas Energy Systems, dozens of pro bono volunteer consultants matched with 23 DC area nonprofit organizations will work to complete done-in-a-day capacity-building projects.  Pro Bono Campfire partners including IMPACT (@teamIMPACT), AIGA DC (@aigadc), and Deloitte have provided teams of highly qualified pro bono consultants.

Brandon Andrews, Special Projects Manager at IMPACT says, "IMPACT is proud to partner with Taproot Foundation in helping non-profit organizations create meaningful change during Pro Bono Week 2013. These pro bono consulting opportunities will allow IMPACT's network of young professionals to serve others, while building their professional skills and network. Supporting non-profit organizations and growing teams of socially conscious consultants is a double benefit to our communities."

Stone Soup Films volunteers will create a short docufilm about the value and impact of pro bono.  These filmmakers will document several pro bono projects conducted during Pro Bono Week, and the completed film will be unveiled at the end of the week.

Taproot Washington DC Executive Director, Max Skolnik, says, “I’m very excited to be a part of DC’s first Pro Bono Week celebration.  It will be a week of transformative work for both local nonprofits and professional volunteers.  I can’t wait to see the results.”

About Pro Bono Service

Pro bono--short for pro bono publico, "for the public good"—refers to professional services delivered without expectation of a fee to organizations serving the social good. It is both a form of support for community organizations as well as an increasingly core part of the ethic of business professionals from design to HR and technology, who believe that high-quality professional services are too important to only be available to those who can afford them.
