St. Paul, Minn., Feb. 18, 2013 /3BL Media/ – The Beverage Industry Environmental Roundtable (BIER) welcomes Sun Orchard, a family-owned processor and international distributor of fruit juices, bar mixers and other fruit-based beverages, as its newest member, bringing total coalition membership to 20 companies. “We are excited to have Sun Orchard onboard”, says Tod Christenson, BIER Director. “As a niche producer serving a wide variety of customers in the foodservice industry, they will bring a unique and valuable perspective to BIER and its efforts to advance the environmental sustainability of the beverage sector.”

“The Sun Orchard family is proud to join BIER and support its important mission,” says Marc Isaacs, Sun Orchard’s president and CEO. “As our company continues to grow, it’s crucial that we monitor and minimize the environmental impacts of our operations. Joining BIER and collaborating with other beverage industry leaders will be an incredibly valuable part of our continuous efforts to be a more sustainable organization.”

Founded in 2006, BIER will focus this year’s efforts on defining context-based metrics for water use and efficiency benchmarking, developing assessment tools to help prioritize and mitigate climate change impacts across the beverage industry supply chain, and better understanding beverage container recycling rates worldwide.
