WASHINGTON, Ill., November 19, 2013 /3BL Media/ – Verizon Wireless is providing first responders, its customers and the general public in tornado-struck Washington, Ill., with wireless emergency relief in the form of added wireless communications capabilities including a disaster relief mobile support unit where customers will be able to make calls, charge phones, and connect to the Internet, and additional wireless support at two Red Cross Shelters.

“We are working to meet customers’ needs and be there when they count on us the most,” said Brian Pascoe, region president, Verizon Wireless.

Verizon Wireless announced the following disaster relief efforts available for those who are affected by the tornadoes in Washington, Ill.:

Verizon Wireless Communication Stores Open

All Verizon Wireless retail locations are open.  Tornado victims as well as customers may use devices in stores to make calls or seek assistance with wireless needs from store personnel.  

Verizon Wireless Mobile Support Unit

A 53-foot mobile support unit is available for residents of Washington, Ill., and surrounding areas at the Red Cross Shelter located at the Crossroads/United Methodist Church, 1420 N. Main Street. This unit is equipped with charging stations and Internet capability. 

Red Cross Locations Equipped with Mobile Devices

Verizon Wireless has equipped workers at two Red Cross Shelters with emergency phones. Locations for these Red Cross Shelters are:

  • Crossroads/United Methodist Church, 1420 N. Main Street, Washington, Ill.
  • Avantis Dome, 3401 Griffin Avenue, Pekin, Ill.
