Internet Essentials Reaches New Milestone: 600,000 Families Connected
This morning, at Rainbow Village, a public housing development in Miami, Florida, Julián Castro, our forward-thinking and energetic Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), and I announced a pilot program with ConnectHome to extend eligibility for Internet Essentials, Comcast’s signature broadband adoption program, to public housing residents in Miami-Dade County and the cities of Nashville, Philadelphia, and Seattle.

David L. Cohen: The Cruel Irony of the 'Digital Divide' and how it's Hurting Philadelphia
For more than a decade, there has been a national debate about how to close the digital divide: the gap between those who are connected to high-speed Internet at home and those who are not. The issue not only has a profound impact on individual families, but also on our region's business owners, economy builders, and employers.

Putting Technology to Work for People with Disabilities
Over the years, technology has made all of our jobs easier, but for those of us in the disability community, technology has made many of our jobs possible.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and as I think about the collective progress we’ve made, it strikes me that much of that progress can be credited to advances in technology.

Education

Comcast Announces Internet Essentials Community College Pilot Programs In Colorado And Illinois
Education and home Internet go hand in hand. And equalizing access to educational resources is one of the most important benefits of a home Internet connection. That’s precisely why we first offered Internet Essentials to low-income families with children from Head Start through 12th grade. Education, however, doesn’t just end after high school. So, today, I had the privilege of joining Colorado Lieutenant Governor and Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education Joe Garcia and President of the Colorado Community College System Nancy McCallin, Ph.D., to announce that Comcast is extending Internet Essentials, on a pilot basis, to low-income community college students across Colorado. We also announced an Internet Essentials low-income community college pilot program in Illinois, home to one of the largest community college systems in the nation. To be eligible, students must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant — the nation’s largest need-based grant program.
