Darden Harvest 10th Anniversary
In 2011, some 50 million Americans lived in food insecure households. Of those, 58 percent live above the federal income poverty line and most of the time we fail to recognize they need a warm meal. The resources in place to feed them—community organizations and food banks—are often filled to capacity and also in need of outside help from corporate programs and donors.
During the month of February, Darden's Harvest Program is celebrating its 10th year. Darden Harvest has provided more than 62 million pounds of food to local organizations and food banks; that’s equivalent to serving 19,300 families of four, three meals a day for an entire year. Harvest donations are safely saved, fully-prepared menu items including everything from lasagna and vegetables to lobster dishes. Darden’s Harvest program is the largest prepared-foods donation program running year-long to benefit those in need.
