On Tuesday, the Variety Inclusion Summit, sponsored by 20th Century Fox, hosted elite gathering of leaders and innovators in support of diversity - the inclusion of different genders, races, abilities, sexual identities, ethnicities, ages, and more - in film, TV, and digital media. The list of 22 prominent speakers included musician and producer Pharrell Williams, FX's American Horror Story series regular Jamie Brewer, 20th Century Fox's New Girl executive producer Danielle Sanchez-Witzel, and Fox Animation and Bly Sky Studio President Vanessa Morrison.

STAR Plus Kicks Off 'Nayi Soch' Campaign to Salute Star Cricket Players' Mothers, Push Agenda for Indian Women
STAR India has long been an example of a company that embeds purpose in what it does, in particular when it comes to advancing the societal roles of women and girls. In its latest campaign, STAR India's No.1 Hindi general entertainment channel, STAR Plus, has recruited three of India's biggest cricket stars for a series of television promos to combat stereotypes and push the agenda for the country's half-billion women. The campaign is part of a brand partnership with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) called "Nayi Sochi" ("New Thinking").

20th Century Fox Film Partners with American Film Institute to Increase Opportunities for Female Film Directors in Hollywood
Twentieth Century Fox Film is partnering with the American Film Institute to open more opportunities on major studio films for female directors. The initiative will provide alumnae of the AFI Conservatory Directing Workshop for Women (DWW) -- the AFI's female filmmaker training program -- the opportunity to direct short films based on the Fox studio's film franchises.

Fox Global Directors Initiative Announces 16 New Fox Director Fellows to Cultivate Directors with Diverse Voices and Backgrounds
In its ongoing endeavor to develop directors with diverse voices, backgrounds, life experiences and perspectives, Fox Audience Strategy has begun it second annual Fox Global Directors Initiative (FDI). The directors who have been named Fox Director Fellows will participate in comedy or drama apprenticeship programs and be pitched for directorial opportunities across Fox entertainment programs.

Fx Reshaping Hollywood with Big Push for Diversity Behind the Camera
FX CEO John Landgraf dedicated a sizable portion of his August 9 session at the TCA Summer Press Tour to this issue of diversity in Hollywood, announcing that the network has dramatically expanded opportunities for diverse directors. Currently, 51% of the directors hired to work on FX and FXX shows during the 2016-2017 season are women or people of color.

Fox Audience Strategy Announces Ester Lou Weithers as the 2016 Fox Writers Intensive Fellow
Fox Audience Strategy has announced that writer Ester Lou Weithers is this year's Fox Writers Intensive (FWI) Fellow. Ester, who was selected from a group of 12 finalists announced earlier this year, has received a script development deal with FOX Broadcasting Company and 20th Century Fox Television. Since 2011, the FWI has nurtured experienced writers with diverse voices, backgrounds and life experiences and created a pipeline of well-rounded talent for potential staffing on FOX television shows, films and other Fox Entertainment projects.

'Empire' star Taraji P. Henson Honored for Excellence in Television at Women In Film's Crystal + Lucy Awards
Taraji P. Henson, Golden Globe-winning actress known to millions as Cookie Lyon on the hit FOX drama Empire, was honored with the Lucy Award for Excellence in Television on June 15 for her contributions to women's role in the entertainment industry. The recognition came as part of the annual Crystal + Lucy Awards hosted by the nonprofit Women In Film, an organization advocating for gender parity in Hollywood. Fox Television Group Co-Chairman and CEO Dana Walden presented the award to Henson, who spoke about the pay gap between male and female actors and reflected on the importance of representing women on screen and behind the camera.

'Empire' Exec Producer and Showrunner Ilene Chaiken Honored with GLSEN Respect Award for Representing LGBT People on TV
Ilene Chaiken, "Empire" executive producer and showrunner, was honored with a 2016 GLSEN Respect Award last evening at a ceremony in New York City for her work in representing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people on television. GLSEN is a national education organization that aims to ensure safe and affirming schools for all students. Since 2004, the GLSEN Respect Awards turn a spotlight on the work of those who serve as role models for LGBT youth with events in Los Angeles and New York each year.

Fox Showrunners Talk Women in TV at Tribeca Film Festival: Flawed Female Characters, Getting Their Voices Heard and More
21CF showrunners Liz Meriwether ("New Girl"), Nahnatchka Khan ("Fresh Off the Boat"), and Julie Klausner (Hulu's "Difficult People") discussed the challenges and opportunities facing women in the television industry during the Tribeca Film Festival's #DaringWomenSummit. The April 20th session spanned a range of subjects, such as the lack of female directors in Hollywood, the progress women have made in recent years, and the work that still needs to be done. Danielle Nussbaum, Senior West Coast Editor at Entertainment Weekly, moderated the panel, which also featured journalist and "Being Mary Jane" writer Keli Goff.

On March 21, the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation announced the honorees for the 41st annual Gracie Awards, a ceremony celebrating outstanding work by women in the media industry. The event will recognize Angela Bassett for directing the "Water Apocalypse" episode of Ron Howard and Brian Grazer's "Breakthrough" documentary series on 21st Century Fox's National Geographic Channel, as well Kristine Leahy, co-host of "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" on FOX Sports 1.
