Breakthrough Prize Awards $25 Million to Leading Scientists in Live Special on National Geographic, Re-airing Dec. 18 on FOX
For the second year in a row, National Geographic aired a global live broadcast of the Breakthrough Prize ceremony, an annual awards show that aims to give scientists and mathematicians the same celebrity treatment as actors and musicians. Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman hosted the December 4 ceremony, which also included appearances by Jeremy Irons, astronaut Scott Kelly, Sienna Miller, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vin Diesel, Kevin Durant, Dev Patel, Alex Rodriguez, and Will.i.am, as well as a musical performance by Alicia Keys. The event, which distributed $25 million in awards supporting the work of top scientists and students, will re-air as a one-hour special on the FOX network on Sunday, December 18 at 7PM.

'He Named Me Malala:' 21CF's Yearlong Campaign to Support Girls' Education
In June 2015, Fox Searchlight and National Geographic announced the release of the documentary He Named Me Malala, sparking nearly a year's worth of efforts on the part of 21st Century Fox to make a difference in the global issue of girls' access to education. The film, directed by Academy Award winner Davis Guggenheim, follows the life of Pakistani education activist and Nobel Laureate Malala Yousafzai who survived an assassination attempt in 2012 for her outspoken advocacy.

FOX and National Geographic to air Breakthrough Prize Ceremony this December, Celebrating Top Scientists and Students
National Geographic will once again air a live broadcast of the Breakthrough Prize ceremony, an annual awards show honoring the year's leading scientists and researchers for their contributions to the fields of fundamental physics, life sciences and mathematics. The December 4 ceremony will be hosted by Academy Award winner Morgan Freeman and feature a performance by 15-time Grammy-winning singer Alicia Keys, among other celebrity appearances. Following the live presentation, an edited one-hour version will air on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 7:00PM ET/PT on the FOX network and globally on National Geographic in 171 countries and 45 languages.

21CF Partners with PepsiCo to Launch 'The Search for Hidden Figures' Contest, Empowering Young Women to Pursue STEM Careers
To celebrate the release of "Hidden Figures," 20th Century Fox's upcoming film following three female African American mathematicians during the 1960's Space Race, 21st Century Fox has teamed with PepsiCo to launch "The Search for Hidden Figures," a contest encouraging young women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The contest asks high-school and college students, as well as professionals, to answer essay questions and provide video submissions about the importance of STEM to themselves and the world. More than $200,000 in scholarships and other awards will be granted to the 12 winners, and more will receive membership to the New York Academy of Sciences and other prizes. "Hidden Figures" stars Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe and more.

21CF and National Geographic Take Bronx High-school Film Students from The Cinema School on a Field Trip to 'MARS'
In the weeks leading up to the global premiere of National Geographic's six-part series "MARS" on Monday, Nov. 14, 21st Century Fox and National Geographic took 200 high-school students attending The Cinema School (TCS) in Bronx, N.Y., on a field trip to an immersive Mars experience featuring a virtual reality simulator and an anti-gravity treadmill this week. The students of The Cinema School, the nation's first film high school founded in 2009 by 21CF-supported Ghetto Film School (GFS) in partnership with the New York City Department of Education, also got a chance to hear about what it will take for humans to live on Mars.

'Xploration Outer Space,' Fox's STEM Series for Teens, Wins Big at Cynopsis Kids Awards
Xploration Outer Space, the space-themed educational series for kids and teens airing on Fox TV Stations nationwide, scored two major wins at the Cynopsis Kids !magination Awards on September 27. The half-hour series from Steve Rotfeld Productions was recognized by Cynopsis Media as the year's Best Educational Series/Special on STEM subjects, and its #StudentAstronaut contest earned the award for Best Social Media Campaign. Xploration Outer Space is part of Xploration Station, a three-hour block of STEM programming airing Saturday mornings on Fox TV Stations.

Nat Geo Mundo Explorer Competition Grants Four High School Students a Summer of Science, Travel and Photography
The Nat Geo Mundo Explorer competition, a joint effort between DIRECTV and 21st Century Fox's Nat Geo Mundo channel, launched in January as a way to expand opportunities for young people to participate in National Geographic Student Expeditions. The program matches student groups with a National Geographic Explorer, who then guides the students through original research and photography projects at one of more than 40 locations across the globe. Nat Geo Mundo Explorer offered full scholarships to the Student Expeditions program and allowed the winners to select any of the available trips.

August 25 marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. National Parks Service, and National Geographic is celebrating by offering audiences multiple ways to discover the parks and learn how to preserve them for future generations.
