TED@UPS: What If Data was Donated?
Companies are constantly searching for new and innovative ways to solve the world’s most vexing problems. What many firms don’t realize, however, is that they already have a silver bullet at their disposal. It’s their data.

Responsible Business & Employee Engagement

The Business Case for Sustainability
Myth: You can’t afford to be sustainable unless you’re a big company. Fact: It’s good business to be sustainable – for companies big and small.

Responsible Business & Employee Engagement

From “Nice to Have” to Business Critical
We use only the minimum amount of packaging to ship our products, making sure we’re not sacrificing customer service or product protection (Don’t you hate when you order a sweater and it comes engulfed in plastic inside a box big enough for child to play in?). We work with UPS to figure out the best package size for each of our bags. We’ve also worked with their logistics folks on ways to lower our carbon footprint. In the process, we were introduced to two UPS sustainability programs – UPS Carbon Neutral Shipping and Certified Green Packaging – that are helping us ship more responsibly.

Narrow Streets, Unlimited Innovation
The world’s largest transportation and logistics company proposed replacing its large delivery vehicles with a smaller, city-friendly fleet in Hamburg. UPS drivers would pick up deliveries from a storage container of consolidated shipments in the center of the city. UPS drivers would then use alternative methods, including walkers, conventional tricycles and electrically assisted tricycles, to make deliveries throughout the city center and in pedestrian-only zones.

Shining a Light on Trade
Defenders of free trade need a better pitch amid growing skepticism of the global movement of goods.

Responsible Business & Employee Engagement

At the Heart of Free Trade
With free trade under relentless attack in certain political circles, it’s time for a reality check. We shouldn’t shut down borders. The U.S.-Canada trade lane, for example, is proof of the transformative power of the global movement of goods.

The Circle of Trust in 5 Steps
On Feb. 7, 2005, Ellen MacArthur’s sailing prowess peaked, as she broke the world record for the fastest solo circumnavigation of the Earth.

After speeding through the sea for 71 days, surviving only on limited rations of food, water, medicine and fuel, she was suddenly struck by the reality of what it meant to live with finite resources.

“Never before in life had I translated that word ‘finite’ to anything outside of sailing until I stepped off that boat at the finish line,” MacArthur said during a 2015 TED Talk. “Suddenly I connected the dots. Our global economy is no different.”

Paving the Road for the Future of Transportation
Mark Frohnmayer had a pretty specific checklist when he was looking to buy an electric car a decade ago. He wanted a vehicle that suited his travel needs, boasted a premium build quality and helped move the needle in terms of climate change.

Getting Life-Saving Medicines . . . from a Drone
The Rwandan government will soon use drones to deliver life-saving blood supplies and rabies vaccine to health workers in the western half of the East African country. The effort is part of an innovative collaboration between Zipline, a California-based robotics company; Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance; and UPS. The partnership could help save lives around the world.
