66 percent of US nonprofits need pro bono services more than any other volunteer service, but making good use of volunteers can be challenging. That’s the finding of a national survey organized by Capital One Financial Corporation, and including input from Common Impact, Points of Light, and the Taproot Foundation. Nearly half the nonprofits surveyed were not aware that external resources are available to assess capacity building and infrastructure issues, a key step in designing an effective pro bono project.

Poverty Resolutions, a nonprofit which uses a sustainable, market-based approach to microfinance, has given microcredit loans of $300 each to eleven clients in Haiti. The organization partnered with a local community leader in Haiti to target low-risk clients with prior business experience. Since the start of the pilot program three months ago, there has been a 100 percent repayment rate.

Enterprise 2.0 has announced changes in direction to its twice-annual trade shows. E2 Social in Boston will now focus on all things social, and E2 Innovate, to be held in Silicon Valley, will offer startups a forum to explore new business niches as well as easy access to venture capitalists.
