December 17, 2014 /3BL Media/ - CareWell Urgent Care is providing funding in support of two signature Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation programs aimed at positively impacting youth at Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston, encouraging them to develop active and healthy lifestyles.

Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation’s Badges for Baseball program is a juvenile crime prevention initiative that promotes health and wellness while teaching kids important lessons about teamwork, communication, respect, and leadership that can be used both on and off the field. The program taps into the power of law enforcement officials as role models and mentors, and pairs them with kids to play, learn and build their character.

Through CBS EcoMedia’s WellnessAd program, CareWell Urgent Care is funding a Badges for Baseball athletic gear and equipment distribution at four Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. The Yawkey, Blue Hill, Charlestown and South Boston Clubs will receive new baseballs, softballs, jerseys, swimming goggles, kickboards and other equipment, which will allow Club members to engage in a wide range of sports and fitness activities.

CareWell Urgent Care’s funding also supports Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation’s Healthy Choices, Healthy Children curriculum which helps train law enforcement officers to become better coaches and mentors to youth enrolled in the Badges for Baseball program.

More than 200 young Club members will benefit from CareWell Urgent Care’s funding.

“At Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston we strive to ensure that our members live healthy lifestyles and engage in regular physical activity,” said Josh Kraft, Nicholas, President and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston. “We are grateful for the support of the CareWell Urgent Care and CBS EcoMedia’s WellnessAd program that will enable our members to participate in a wide range of sports and fitness activities at the Clubs.”

CareWell Urgent Care employees today took part in a volunteer event at the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club. Volunteers wrote inspirational messages on the tags of the jerseys and then helped unpack, organize, and distribute the new sports equipment. Following the equipment distribution, volunteers engaged in various fitness themed activities with the Club members, including pool, basketball, and ping pong. Hosts included Shaun Ginter, CEO, CareWell Urgent Care; Pete Nash, Executive Director of the Charlestown Boys & Girls Club; Josh Kraft, Nicholas, President and CEO, Boys & Girls Clubs of Boston; Michael Nelson, Director of Business Development & Community Partnerships, CBS.

“We are honored to partner with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation for their Badges for Baseball program,” said Ginter. “Providing our youth with sporting equipment will encourage them to stay active and lead healthy lives, all while developing long-lasting relationships with strong mentors through this fantastic program.”

“Thanks to the generous financial support provided by CareWell Urgent Care, and its commitment to encouraging healthy, active lifestyles, 200 Boston youth will have the opportunity to recognize their true potential,” said Paul Polizzotto, president and founder of CBS EcoMedia.
