International energy and services company, Centrica plc, has launched its Responsible Business Update 2016, which shows how they are delivering their purpose: ‘to satisfy the changing needs of our customers’.

In the Update, Centrica demonstrates how they are responding to the rapidly changing world of energy to give customers what they want – more choice, more control, more affordable energy and increasingly, lower carbon.

To do this, they are repositioning Centrica to focus on growing the distinctive capabilities of its customer-facing businesses and they are doing so as a responsible business.

As a responsible business, Centrica is focusing on prioritising safety, operating ethically, helping customers save time and money, helping those in need, being a responsible employer and reducing carbon emissions.

Through these actions, Centrica is confident they can deliver their purpose and realise their goals to become a trusted corporate citizen, an employer of choice and a 21st century energy provider.

Iain Conn, Group Chief Executive said: “For Centrica, 2016 was a year of robust performance and progress in implementing our customer focused strategy. We delivered our key objectives including improved safety performance, better customer service, and more innovative offerings and solutions, while repositioning the portfolio, building capability and driving significant cost savings as we build a platform for the future”.

Key highlights

  • £100m expected to be invested in start-ups between 2017-21 through Centrica Innovations, a technology focused unit that will deliver new products and services for customers

  • £50m committed to improve UK Home customer service between 2015-17

  • 11% improvement in total recordable injury frequency rate, to 0.98 per 200,000 hours worked

  • 27mtCO2e calculated to have been saved from products installed for our UK customers since 2008 – equivalent to the average annual emissions of 7m UK homes

The Responsible Business Update is supported by a wider suite of online reporting, including a data centre containing over 100 non-financial metrics alongside real-time case studies and blogs.

Centrica has also launched its Annual Report and Accounts 2016.
