On June 18, Republic Services hosted two introductory composting classes for Citrus Heights, CA residents. Local residents joined Republic and Worm Fancy to learn how to compost using worms. Later that morning, the residents who were interested in learning how to compost their waste without using worms stopped by for a traditional composting workshop.

At both of these workshops, residents were taught how to start a composting bin, how to properly size a bin to fit the needs of their family, what to put in their bin, how to monitor it, and how soon one can expect compost. The instructor also explained the Do’s and Don’ts of backyard composting.

Not only did attendees learn about composting, but they learned the importance of diverting material away from landfills. All residents left with a free traditional composting bin, while one lucky resident left with a free worm composting bin.

Watch for future composting workshops in Citrus Heights to come later this year, sponsored by Republic Services of Sacramento.
