In the annual survey of corporate giving compiled by the Chronicle of Philanthropy, many major companies in the health sector scored high as the most generous in supporting urgent social issues. “Most generous” translates to about one percent of pre-tax profit. Merck donated $62 million for health, HIV/AIDS, women’s issues, education, and community development. Pfizer gave $60 million for health causes. Eli Lilly directed $54 million to diversity, hunger and food security, health, the United Way, education, and community development. Abbott Laboratories donated $54 million to health, science and technology, and international relief. Johnson & Johnson gave $131 million to health causes. UnitedHealth Group directed $60 million to health causes. And Bristol-Myers Squibb donated $53 million for mental health, veterans, HIV/AIDS, and health issues.

In the next Minute, I’ll look at the tech sector’s philanthropic honor roll, which is equally impressive.

I’m John Howell for 3BL Media.
