Costa Luminosa: A Perfect Score For Vessel Sanitation During The Around-The-World Cruise
The Costa ship, offering an exciting 98-day voyage to discover 5 continents, scored 100 out of 100 in a US CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) inspection in San Francisco.
GENOA, Italy, October 20, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Costa Luminosa scored full marks (100) in a recent inspection conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States. The inspection was held on 14 October during the call at San Francisco, one of the 39 wonderful destinations included in the Around-the- World cruise of Costa Luminosa. The ship departed on 14 September 2015 for an exciting 98-day voyage, during which Costa guests will discover all the marvels of the world, covering 30,227 nautical miles and discovering 5 continents and 24 different countries, to return to Italy, in Savona, on 21 December.
The CDC inspections are part of the Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP), which was introduced in the early 1970s and involves all ships that stop in a US port. They are unannounced events and are carried out by officials from the USPHS (United States Public Health Service) twice a year. The score, on a scale from 1 to 100, is assigned on the basis of a checklist with some 48 areas of assessment encompassing hygiene and sanitation of food (from storage to preparation), water, shipboard personnel and the ship as a whole.
This is the 13th time that the Costa Cruises fleet has received maximum marks from the CDC inspectors. The first ship to obtain the perfect 100 was actually the Costa Atlantica in 2001, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012; meanwhile the Costa Mediterranea, obtained the top score in 2004, 2005 and 2006; Costa Deliziosa obtained the “perfect score” in an inspection held on 2 February 2012 at Honolulu, while Costa Luminosa in December 2013 and December 2014.
Costa Luminosa (92,600 gross tonnage and 1,130 cabins), built by Fincantieri at Marghera (Venice) and entered service in 2009, is the “ship of light”. Prestigious works of art – 288 originals and more than 4,700 multiples – were specially commissioned for the ship, beginning with the sculpture by Fernando Botero “Donna Sdraiata 2004” (Reclining Woman 2004) that dominates the central hall. Fun and entertainment are guaranteed onboard by 4D Cinema, the latest generation Golf simulator and Grand Prix race car simulator. For guests who want to relax, there’s the exclusive 3,500 m² “Samsara Spa” wellness centre.
