Caterpillar remanufacturing facility the second LEED green building certified in Czech Republic
Sep 2, 2014 1:00 PM ET

Our Solar Turbines Remanufacturing Center in Zatec, Czech Republic, was designed from the beginning to set a benchmark for sustainable manufacturing. In fact, in February 2013, it became the second manufacturing facility in the Czech Republic to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building certification.

But where the Zatec Remanufacturing Center has made real strides is in using cutting-edge technology to process materials. For example, the Zatec Remanufacturing Center uses a specially designed, state-of-the-art cleaning and paint stripping system to minimize airborne pollutants and chemical exposure, creating a safer work environment for our employees.

In addition, a new type of machining process allows the Zatec Remanufacturing Center to reduce cycle times by 30 percent, yet improve component quality. Other process improvements include a twin-chamber coating furnace that improves operator safety and cycle time, plus grinding operations that have been brought in-house to utilize equipment that includes a safer, automated deburring process.
