GAITHERSBURG, Md., February 7, 2017 /3BL Media/ The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) recently announced that Sodexo, world leader in providing Quality of Life services, will provide Deli-Bakery Services operations at 12 DeCA-run commissaries in the American South – 6 each in both Georgia and North Carolina.  Sodexo, which already provides Deli-Bakery Services at 12 DeCA commissaries in Delaware, Maryland, Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C., commenced operations at all new locations on Wednesday, February 1, 2017.

DeCA operates a global chain of commissaries providing groceries to military personnel, retirees and their families in a safe and secure shopping environment. Patrons purchase items at cost plus a 5-percent surcharge, saving thousands of dollars annually on purchases compared to commercial prices.

These savings make commissaries one of the most significant non-monetary benefits for service members and military families and are a clear contributor in improving quality of military life.

“Sodexo is focused on improving the Quality of Life for the people we serve and when it comes to our work with the military, that includes service members and their families,” said Dave Scanlan, CEO government, Sodexo North America. “We understand that DeCA commissaries provide a tremendous amount of value for military families and we welcome the opportunity to contribute to this benefit by making Deli-Bakery Services a convenient on-base stop for healthy and delicious food.”

Sodexo realizes that commissaries face increasing competition from outside retailers, so the company has used its existing operations at DeCA locations to gain insight into what commissary customers want.  Sodexo’s operations at the 12 new locations under this contract will leverage that research in order to make Deli-Bakery Services more innovative and convenient, while also ensuring that there are plenty of healthy options available.

“Our emphasis on innovation will lead to additional Deli-Bakery offers including new salad options, an expanded international cheese selection and a sampling program that allows customers to try before they buy,” explained Scanlan. “We also understand that service men and women and military families are busier than ever, therefore Sodexo is making convenience a cornerstone of our new DeCA operations through things like a complete line of home meal replacements that make family meals a snap and increased grab-and-go items prepared by our chefs that are fast, delicious and healthy.”
