EV Fans Rally Together for Record-Breaking Day

Another achievement to check off the list for Silicon Valley techies: the South Bay snatched the Guinness World Record for longest electric vehicle (EV) parade away from Stuttgart, Germany, with 507 vehicles--among them Nissan Leafs, Tesla Model S's, Toyota RAV4s, and converted autos--traversing a two-mile path on and around De Anza College's campus on Sept. 20.

The contest was strictly by the book. Philip Robertson, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator who flew in from New York for the event, clicked off a counter as each car passed him at the parade start.

A mechanic was on hand to authenticate that cars were 100 percent electric, and two independent clickers stood at the finish line to verify the count. Rules dictated that during the parade, cars couldn't be too far apart for too long.
