Eastman is pleased to announce that its office located in the Metropolis building in Singapore has been awarded LEED® Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council, a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable building and construction.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a certification program that recognizes best-in-class sustainable building practices and strategies. To receive LEED certification, building projects must earn points through a rating system based on the prerequisites established by the LEED program. The number of points earned determines the level of certification, ranging from LEED Certified, with a minimum of 40 points, to LEED Platinum for projects earning more than 80 points.

Eastman’s Singapore office achieved gold certification with 69 points. The office serves both sales and functional support activities in the region.

Elements that contributed to the building’s certification include exemplary performance in water efficiency measures; improved lighting and HVAC efficiency; and paints, coatings and flooring with lower VOC emissions. As a 2014 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence award recipient, the office has also instituted an ENERGY STAR policy related to all equipment and appliances. More than 90 percent of the equipment installed is ENERGY STAR qualified.

“This is an important achievement for the Singapore office,” said Daniel Leong, Regional Business Director for Eastman’s Fibers business in Asia Pacific.  “This certification demonstrates our commitment to employees that the management values health and wellness as a key priority in our decision making process.  The Singapore office employees should feel proud that with this sustainable green office design, we are all doing our part to ensure lasting positive impacts on the environment.”

The Singapore office is Eastman’s second LEED Gold Certified building in the Asia Pacific region. Earlier this year, Eastman’s China Headquarters location in Shanghai was recognized by USGBC with a LEED Gold certification. Additionally, the Metropolis office and retail development building where Eastman’s office is located has received a Green Mark Platinum award by the Building and Construction Authority of Singapore.
