Improving energy efficiency is as important as brand building to business, according to a new report from Deloitte. The study, reSources 2012, finds that 85 percent of companies surveyed say that reducing energy use is essential to staying financially competitive while 81 percent believe it is critical to branding. The report also finds that 90 percent of companies have set goals for energy management practices, targeting average electricity use reductions of 23 percent over a three-to-four year period. Using the Deloitte report as a reference, the Taiga Company offers a detailed plan for business energy efficiency practices.

The Leonardo Academy was the consultant supporting the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Platinum Certification of the Services Employees International Union headquarters building in Washington, D.C. The building was certified LEED Gold for New Construction in 2007 after a major renovation. The Platinum award recognizes that the building has implemented continuous sustainability improvement measures according to LEED requirements for existing buildings, a rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.
