October 3, 2013 /3BL Media/ - Held biennially, the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses that blend affordability, consumer appeal and design excellence with optimal energy production and maximum efficiency. Ingersoll Rand is a proud Supporting Sponsor of the Solar Decathlon, providing student teams with complete NexiaTM Home Intelligence systems and components to build affordable, transitional and energy efficient housing.

WHEN:  The Solar Decathlon takes place Thursday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 13. It's open to the public and free of charge. During the competition, Ingersoll Rand invites media to participate in the following:

  • Connected Technology and Energy Efficiency Powerful Ideas Symposium (Thursday, Oct. 3): Ingersoll Rand executive Gary Michel will discuss how cloud-based technology is providing real time energy consumption and production data, accessible in a consumer friendly manner via mobile apps, tablet apps and PR interfaces.          
  • Interviews (Thursday, Oct. 3): Gary Michel will be on-site and available for interviews. In addition, in-person and off-site interviews can also be arranged with other Ingersoll Rand leaders October 3 & 4.        


  • How greater energy efficiency and productivity can be achieved by global communities in an age of increasing urbanization
  • Misconceptions that only new innovations can help increase sustainability and how they can be dispelled; how today’s solutions and current smart technology can significantly impact energy efficiency
  • Increasing collaboration and partnership among like-minded organizations to advance energy efficiency; how academia, government and the private sector are working together to impact the future of energy production 

VISUALS:   Film crews and photographers can capture visuals of the Solar Decathlon houses, featuring a variety of Ingersoll Rand products. In addition, access to Lennar model homes, outfitted with the latest in sustainable technology products, will be provided by request.
