LG Electronics and the EPA are teaming up on a number of environmental programs that leverage the technical expertise of the federal agency. An EPA 2012 Energy Star Partner of the Year, LG has made a commitment to several new initiatives. They include joining the Energy Star Commercial Building and the EPA WasteWise Programs, supporting the EPA’s Sustainable Materials Management programs for electronics and food waste recycling, and achieving LEED certifications from the U.S. Green Building Council. The memo of understanding between LG and the EPA is the first such agreement of its kind between a consumer electronics and appliance manufacturer and the federal agency.

Electricity wind projects under construction by the end of 2013 can continue to take Production Tax Credits and Investment Tax Credits, which were extended as part of the legislation to avoid the “fiscal cliff.” The credits, for community and offshore projects, had been set to expire at the end of last year. According to the Energy Information Administration, wind set a new record in 2012 by installing 44 percent of all new electrical generating capacity in America, leading the electric sector compared with 30 percent for natural gas, and lesser amounts for coal and other sources.
