TD Bank’s goal is to be as green as its logo. It is concentrating its efforts on areas where it can be most effective: energy and paper. Launched in 2012, TD Forests is an environmental program based on two pillars: growing and protecting forest areas, and encouraging responsible use of paper, which includes a goal to reduce its own paper use by 20 percent by 2015 versus 2010. As part of the program, the bank has partnered with The Nature Conservancy, through which it helps to protect forest areas to the equivalent of the amount of paper it sues. By the end of 2013, TD Forests will have helped protect properties in Florida, South Carolina and New York State.

In 2010, TD Bank became one of the first North American-based carbon neutral banks. The bank’s commitment to reducing its own carbon footprint has transformed the way it uses energy and operates facilities. One hundred percent of the emissions from electricity used at TD Bank, including ATM networks, are offset with renewable energy credits. Its green building design standards challenge the bank to design building that produce energy rather than consume it. in 2012, 100 percent of new U.S. retail locations were built to achieve LEED certification, primarily to the gold and platinum level, and TD bank will continue to apply this policy. The bank opened its first net-zero energy bank location in North America in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. This store is designed to produce more electricity than it uses.
