ORLANDO, Fla., November 15, 2017 /3BL Media/ — Mohawk Group, a leading commercial flooring company known for cutting-edge and innovative flooring solutions, announced today that the company’s Lichen carpet plank collection is a winning product in the prestigious Nightingale Awards program at the Healthcare Design Expo & Conference. Resulting from innovations that merge leading concepts in biophilic design and sustainability, the world’s first floor covering to achieve Living Product Challenge Petal Certification was honored with two key awards: best of competition and gold for carpet.

Presented by Healthcare Design and Contract in partnership with The Center for Health Design, the Nightingale Awards recognize contribution to the healthcare built environment through product design and innovation that helps facilitate healing. Named in honor of Florence Nightingale and initiated in 1990 by Contract magazine’s editors and The Center for Health Design’s founders, the Nightingale Awards recognize products that are juried by seasoned healthcare design professionals and healthcare facility managers. The jury makes selections based on the product’s contribution to a healing environment, functionality, quality and durability, aesthetics and style, pricing and innovation.

Earlier this year, the Lichen Collection also captured a Metropolis Likes award and a Best of NeoCon Gold award for modular carpet.

“Lichen is a strong embodiment of our promise to the healthcare segment, from its inspiring sustainability story to its manufacturing and community engagement, helping contribute to healthier spaces that nurture and heal the human mind, body and spirit,” added Hubbell.

The International Living Future Institute’s Living Product Challenge is a product certification program, advocacy tool and philosophy that defines the most advanced measure of sustainability in product manufacturing today. Designed by Jason F. McLennan, the founder of the Living Product Challenge, in collaboration with Mohawk Group and his team at McLennan Design, Lichen is inspired by the idea of “Nature’s Carpet.” The Red List Free collection is made with Duracolor premium nylon fibers, making it functional for the most demanding healthcare environments because of superior inherent stain- and wear-resistant qualities. The collection’s anchor is a large-scale field of lichen blooms that help create a calm healing environment, changing in shape and form by colorway. Other patterns include a transition style that has less bloom as well as a style that is solely textured ground. The styles can be used together in a wide range of healthcare environments as a system, or separately, depending on the desired configuration of texture and color.
