September 22, 2015 /3BL Media/ - Tenke Fungurume Mining, a Freeport-McMoRan company, implements an integrated malaria control program in the communities surrounding its operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to protect its workforce, as well as the community residing within the concession. This malaria control program is the first of its kind in the DRC. An indoor residual spraying program strives to reach all accessible households in the concession. In 2014 there was an 80 percent reduction in total workforce malaria incidence since the start of the program in 2008.

In Papua, Indonesia, the PT Freeport Indonesia Community Health Department implements programs for education, prevention, counseling, diagnosis and treatment of diseases within and around the project area. In 2014 PT Freeport Indonesia invested $7.8 million in community public health programs and the Freeport Partnership Fund for Community Development contributed almost $15.4 million. These programs included the operation of community hospitals in Timika, in the lowlands, and Banti, in the highlands, as well as implementation of a comprehensive public health program addressing HIV/AIDS, TB, malaria, mother and child health, and clean water.
