The technology, admittedly, still has some glitches (I’ve read some horror stories lately about smart home hubs turning on fire alarms at 3am or turning off power entirely in homes.) But the kinks are soon to be a thing of the past, especially as tech giants Google, Amazon and Apple jockey to dominate the space with voice-enabled technology that combines machine learning and online search functionality to allow users to get information, manage tasks, and control a wide spectrum of smart products. This sophisticated voice enabled technology offers true connectivity, as it can integrate into other smart products ranging from thermostats to a ceiling fans, so users can simply speak to these devices rather than requiring a phone or remote to control them.

Amazon has led the charge to date with Echo (powered by Alexa.) Not to be left out of the game, Apple is offering their version of hub, HomeKit, which leverages the company’s Siri virtual assistant. And last week, Google unveiled the revolutionary Google Home, its version of a virtual home assistant device, which incorporates artificial intelligence. "Our ability to do conversational understanding is far ahead of what other virtual assistants can do," said Google chief executive Sundar Pichai. "We are an order of magnitude ahead of everyone else."
