In this new role, Fletcher will lead the vehicle program execution for GM’s entire global electric vehicle portfolio, including the commitment to launch more than 20 all-electric vehicles globally by 2023.

GM announced it acquired LIDAR technology company Strobe, Inc. As part of the deal, Strobe’s engineering talent joins GM’s Cruise Automation team to define and develop next-generation LIDAR solutions for self-driving vehicles.

GM uses a variety of clean energy sources. From wind and solar to renewable thermal, the company is working toward a commitment to power all of its operations’ electricity needs worldwide with renewable energy by 2050. In 2016, the company used 199.8 megawatts of green power. For example, since Orion Assembly received the EPA’s Green Power Leadership Award in 2016, it has continued to use renewable energy sources. 
 
GM Outlines Possibilities for Flexible, Autonomous Fuel Cell Electric Platform
GM aims to solve some of the toughest transportation challenges created by natural disasters, complex logistics environments and global conflicts. The company will display its Silent Utility Rover Universal Superstructure (SURUS), a flexible fuel cell electric platform with autonomous capabilities, at the fall meeting of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) from Oct. 9-11, 2017. The commercially designed platform could be adapted for military use.
