Good Grades to GFNorte for Environmental Performance

June 10, 2016 /3BL Media/ - In 2015, Grupo Financiero Banorte’s environmental performance was recognized mainly by two institutions, CDP, an international organization for sustainability, who including it in their Carbon Performance Leadership Index, with the highest rating of 100 A; an achievement that demonstrates the group’s leadership in mitigating the impact of climate change.

It is also the first private financial institution to obtain GEI2 recognition from SEMARNAT (Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources), which endorses its strategy to evaluate, account and report emissions, as well as implement a mitigation program for the same.

Actions taken by GFNorte in 2015 which resulted in these types of recognitions, include:

In terms of energy efficiency, economic savings accumulated from the integral energy control system (SICE), one of its major programs for the responsible use of energy, exceeded, from its implementation in 2007 until the end of 2015, the Ps 130 million and the 85 million kWh of savings in energy, which avoided 38,620 tons of CO2 emissions.

Similarly in 2015, 722 ATMs were replaced by more energy-efficient models, which generated an estimated annual electric savings of 3.3 million kWh, representing an 80% monthly energy savings for each renewed ATM.

In support of biodiversity, the environmental education program of the green roof, located on top of the “Roberto González Barrera” Contact Center in Monterrey, N.L., received 1,814 visitors last year, its second year of operation.

Also a donation of one million pesos was made to the civil association Profauna Mexico to protect the black bear in Coahuila, as a result of an alliance with the MexiCO2 platform.

In 2015, GFNorte allocated worldwide more than Ps 22.5 billion in environmental investments, funds for prevention, management and mitigation projects of impacts generated by its activities.
