GreenBlue’s How2Recycle Label Welcomes Annie’s, Inc. as its Newest Participant
April 2, 2014 /3BL Media/ - Annie’s, Inc. (NYSE: BNNY), a leading natural and organic food company, is the newest participant in the How2Recycle Label program. How2Recycle is a project of GreenBlue’s Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) developed to provide clear, concise on-package recyclability information to consumers in an effort to keep recoverable materials out of landfills. Annie’s is one of over 20 companies currently participating in program, and is also a member of the SPC.
Annie’s was founded on the idea that businesses can be both successful and socially responsible. Annie’s adoption of the How2Recycle Label demonstrates the brand’s commitment to “act in a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable manner” by helping consumers recycle properly, reducing the environmental footprint of its packaging.
”Annie’s adoption of the How2Recycle label is in line with our desire to be transparent and help consumers make sustainable choices in their daily lives,” said Shauna Sadowski, Annie’s Director of Sustainability. “We have long focused on the simplicity and goodness of our ingredients, and we are proud that our sustainability journey now includes a partnership with How2Recycle to help make our packaging easier to recycle.”
“We have found that consumers are often confused about what can and cannot be recycled,” said Anne Bedarf, GreenBlue Senior Manager. “The How2Recycle Label helps to encourage recycling by directing consumers to the appropriate next action and providing an informative website where they can learn more and ask questions.”
The company plans to phase-in the How2Recycle Label onto many of its products in the upcoming months, including snacks like Cheddar Bunnies and macaroni and cheese packaged in cardboard boxes (pictured above).

How2Recycle is a program of GreenBlue’s Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC). The SPC’s goal is for the How2Recycle Label to appear on the majority of consumer goods packaging by 2016 and to provide participating companies with detailed information regarding the recyclability of their packaging.
