October 18, 2013 /3BL Media/ - The Adventure Capitalists seeks out and attracts authentic, committed, holistically minded client-partners, strategic partners and non-profits that are doing the heavy lifting for social and environmental good worldwide. Through our relationship with LOATREE, a lifestyle company that profiles change makers, builds community, and inspires action, we have been introduced to the Quivera Coalition.

Quivera was founded by two conservationists and a rancher who saw a unique opportunity to find solutions to climate change, peak oil, ecosystem degradation, service decline, overpopulation, species extinction, and food and water shortages through collaboration, education, and perseverance.

The Quivira Coalition is a group structured on innovation and ecological understanding for the strengthening of economic and ecological resilience on western working landscapes. Quivira drives change by utilizing the combined technical and intellectual toolkits of their members; scientists, ranchers, farmers, conservations, and urban planners all focused on improving land health, sharing knowledge and innovation, building local capacity and strengthening diverse relationships.

Their mission is as strong as their membership:

“To build resilience by fostering ecological, economic and social health on western landscapes through education, innovation, collaboration and progressive public and private land stewardship.”

2013 Quivira Conference

Standing at the forefront of the Quivira Coalition’s work is a yearly conference that attracts nearly 500 attendees from across the country. This year Quivira will bring together award-winning experts to discuss and share current research, projects, and collaborations in the field of adaptation. The conference titled “Inspiring Adaptation” will take place Wednesday – Friday, November 13 - 15, 2013 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This conference fosters the sharing of innovative ideas, strengthens relationships and fuels the fire for attendees to put their newfound knowledge into action.

Speakers include a Nobel Peace Prize co-winner, a recipient of a Pulitzer Prize in Poetry, a MacArthur "Genius Grant” Fellow, a Pew Fellow in Conservation and Environment, a Guggenheim Fellow, a winner of the Stewart L. Udall Award for Conservation, two winners of the Society for Range Management Award, and six winners of the Clarence Burch and Radical Center awards.

Quivira is built on movers and shakers…

To date, the Quivira Coalition’s collaborative efforts have benefited at least 1 million acres of rangeland, 30 linear miles of riparian drainages and 15,000 people. They have organized over 100 educational events on topics as diverse as drought management, riparian restoration, harvesting water from ranch roads, conservation easements, reading the landscape, ecological and photo monitoring, water harvesting, low-stress livestock handling, grassbanks and grassfed beef. They have published numerous newsletters, journals, bulletins, field guides and books, including a rangeland health monitoring protocol and an in-depth manual on restoring function and health to incised channels. And lastly, they managed the innovative Valle Grande Grassbank, located near Santa Fe, eventually becoming their own producers of local, grass fed beef.
