Roche has announced 19 late stage clinical trials over the next 18 months, including 12 focused on new molecular entities, NME’s. Three NME projects could reach the Lifecycle Investment Point to move into late-stage development this year. The trials are at the core of Roche’s business strategy, which is based on developing differentiated medicines and diagnostics in areas of high unmet need.

CNL Healthcare Trust is investing more than $40 million into senior housing and healthcare real estate in Florida and Iowa. The healthcare REIT’s latest investments include Harbor Chase, located in central Florida, next to the largest retirement community in the country and one of the fastest growing small urban markets in the U.S.

The Institute of Medicine has reported that the U.S. health care system wastes 30 cents of every medical dollar, about $750 billion, every year. The new study attributes the inefficiency to unneeded care, complicated paperwork, and fraud. The report also finds that deep cuts are possible in Medicare without rationing, and that a leaner system may even produce better quality.
