History Colorado Center Showcases Arrow Electronics’ SAM Car

Colorado-based global technology company Arrow Electronics showcased its Semi-Autonomous Motorcar (SAM Car) project last month at the History Colorado Center in Denver. The Arrow SAM car was displayed near the Fritchle car company exhibit that celebrates the innovative 1914 Fritchle electric car built in Denver.

The Arrow SAM Car was created for former racecar driver Sam Schmidt, who was paralyzed from the chest down after a racing accident in 2000. Using off-the-shelf technology, Arrow modified a Corvette, enabling Schmidt to drive it using only the motions of his head. All of the software and technology that Arrow develops for the car is open to the developer and engineering communities and has promising broader applications for independent living.

The Arrow SAM Car was named the best car innovation of 2016 by the news website Business Insider. The project is a collaborative venture between Arrow Electronics, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports, Conquer Paralysis Now and Lingenfelter Performance Engineering.
