The Alumni Association of Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) has announced that Dr. Terry F. Yosie, President & CEO of the World Environment Center, will receive the university’s prestigious Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award for 2016. The award recognizes alumni for their achievements in the arts, humanities, business, academia and public service. Dr. Michael A. Driscoll, IUP’s President, will present the award at an Alumni Association Gala on April 16.

Dr. Yosie received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Department of History in 1974. He subsequently attended Carnegie Mellon University where he received a Master of Arts degree in 1975 and a Doctorate from the Dietrich College of Humanities and Social Science in 1981. He received Carnegie Mellon’s Alumni Achievement Award for 2013.

Dr. Yosie is being recognized for his achievements in environmental protection and advancing sustainable development. He has played a leading role in some of the most important decisions to protect both people and planet, including the phase-out of lead from motor gasoline, protection of the stratospheric ozone layer, development of policies to develop cleaner motor fuels, advancement of chemical industry security following September 11, 2001, working with leading global companies and universities to prepare the next generation of business leaders, and developing over 200 partnerships to create sustainable business opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises.

“Terry Yosie was exemplary in the classroom while enrolled at IUP, and he has applied both focus and discipline throughout his remarkable career,” stated Professor Emeritus Charles D. Cashdollar, who nominated Dr. Yosie for the Award. “He has extended his curiosity and dedication to the discipline of history across many path breaking accomplishments in government, the private sector and a global non-profit organization. He is a most deserving recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award, and we in the Department of History are very proud to have one of our own receive such recognition.”

Prior to enrolling at IUP in 1974, Dr. Yosie graduated from the Blacklick Valley Junior-Senior High School in Nanty-Glo, Pennsylvania in Cambria County in 1970. He was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania and resided for many years in the village of Twin Rocks. His mother Jean lives in Ebensburg, Pennsylvania near his sister Corrine Devlin. He is the son of the late Frank Yosie, Jr., a coal miner. Dr. Yosie is married to Ann Hegnauer from Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and they live in Washington, D.C.

“My entire adulthood and professional career have been shaped by the foundation in both learning and life provided by Indiana University of Pennsylvania,” stated Dr. Yosie. “I am enormously grateful for this Award that represents a great source of pride for my family.”
